Program Overview

Masaryk University in Brno is one of the largest and oldest universities in the Czech Republic.  Experience the Czech republic first-hand through this exchange program either through the Central European Studies Program (CESP) or through Masaryk's other faculties, which offer a wide variety of courses in English. 


CESP brings together a stimulating mix of students from the United States and all parts of Europe. Courses include studies of the social, economic, political and cultural transformations that have shaped Central Europe and the Czech Republic in particular at the end of the 20th century and the changes facing this region at the beginning of the 21st century.  CESP that focuses on Central & East European social issues, economics, civic and political culture since 1989, cultural heritage and the Czech language.  Classes for international students are taught in English.  Enrollment in a beginning Czech language course is recommended so that students can be more involved in Czech society.

Masaryk University is located in Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. With a population of 400,000, Brno is a vibrant university town with a rich historic legacy dating back to the early 9th century. Halfway between Prague and Budapest, Brno was a cultural crossroad along a trade route in Central Europe that connected Berlin, Krakow and Vienna. The Czech Republic is slightly smaller than South Carolina in geographic size.


Accommodation and meals are included in the program fee. Students live in modern university dormitories sharing double rooms with an ensuite bathroom and mini-kitchenette (fridge, sink, and double hotplate) with Czech or other foreign students. They have full access to university computer centres, sports facilities, canteens and laundries.  The program fee includes on-site orientation, tuition, room and board, and several excursions to neighboring countries.  The dormitory also has laundry and cooking facilities. Bed linens and blankets are provided.
