In this episode of Wildcat Voices, join us as we meet Adiba, an international student from Bangladesh who's on her way to earning a biomedical engineering degree at the University of Arizona.

“I chose the U of A because I really looked into the engineering department and the research going on was amazing,” said Adiba. “I was like, that is something from the future and I would like to get involved in that.”

Through her work in Dr. Philipp Gutruf’s lab she is already preparing for her future. She works to make biomedical devices compact, battery-free, and wireless so they don’t need to be charged constantly. Ultimately, Adiba hopes to make the process of treating patients more accessible.

She has also found a strong sense of involvement on campus, not only from her lab work, but also from her living-learning community on campus. As a first-year engineering student, Adiba was invited to be part of the Engineering Leadership Community (ELC). This cohort of peers attend classes together, receive guidance from a faculty member, pursue social networking among the UArizona engineering community and explore engineering professions.

“There is this community feeling that is just really really valuable to me," she said. "I would live in the ELC all four years of my college life, if I could.”

Learn more about Adiba's passion for her field and the strong sense of community she's cultivated through her lab work and student living experience in the ELC in our next video episode of Wildcat Voices.
