The international admissions team at the University of Arizona had a lot to be excited about on National Decision Day, which recently passed on Monday, May 1st.

The number of undergraduate students committing to start their study in the fall semester had grown 54% compared with the same time last year.  Additionally, international graduate commitments also increased by 20%.

National Decision Day is a key date in the enrollment calendar when future students accept their offer to study at their preferred university. It is not a strict deadline for international applicants at UArizona, but it generally provides an indication of final enrollment numbers for the subsequent fall semester, and it looks like UArizona is on track for another record-breaking international intake.

Katie Van Wyk, director of international admissions and enrollment in Arizona International, remarked that she was thrilled, “but we still have some hurdles to cross and more work to do, as we continue to support our future wildcats in completing their journey to the university.”

As each international applicant accepts their offer of study, they receive a special commit pack from the international admissions team. The pack provides future students with a few small but practical items such as a luggage tag, and most importantly, a letter of congratulations from their enrolment counselor.

“International applicants will continue to receive the commit pack if they accept their offer even after National Decision Day,” said Katie. “The pack is just one of many ways we help students build a connection with us and their future home, so they feel comfortable and welcome as they take one of the biggest steps of their life.”

Throughout the year, international admissions staff travel to meet and engage online with future students from all around the globe. Daniel Palm, associate vice president of international affairs, recently returned from India where he joined the university’s locally based admissions team for a series of special events to meet newly admitted students and their families in person.

“As a top global university, we are committed to attracting the best and brightest students from around the world. The events I joined in India and our team is undertaking in key locations around the globe, gave students and their families the opportunity to meet our team in-person, and gain a better understanding of life, study and opportunities at University of Arizona," said Daniel. “It’s an exciting time to be a Wildcat, as we prepare to welcome the largest cohort of international students in UArizona history this fall.”
