University of Arizona Arid Lands Poster Session: Cross-disciplinary Symposium on Arid Environments Research. The Office of Global Initiatives, in conjunction with the International Arid Lands Consortium (IALC), hosted a poster session on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. UA researchers from all disciplines (including students) presented their work relating to arid environments at this event. Arid Lands researchers and students gathered to listen to speakers talk about available assets: Altar Valley Conservation Alliance (AVCA) 2), the Santa Rita Experimental Range (SRER); National Ecological Observation Network (NEON) 3), the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (GIDP), and the Maps.Global Arid Lands expertise tracker tool. UA Arid Lands Town Hall DEC 8, 2015

Following on the success of the first Arid Lands Town Hall, UA researchers convened to discuss the path forward for UA arid lands research and to consider and share potential funding opportunities. The Town Hall featured a presentation on new and future web tools to improve connectivity between researchers, and also included breakout group discussions.

UA Arid Lands Town Hall OCT 6, 2015

Members reconnected to successfully energize the “arid lands” research community at UA, to foster interdisciplinary collaboration that addresses the challenges which confront drylands and promotes cooperation with other research institutions in the US and Middle East. The first Town Hall included introductory presentations as well as break-out group discussions, centered on identifying arid lands grand challenges. The diagram below represents broader arid lands challenges.
