Dr. Suzanne Panferov Reese currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Global Engagement at the University of Arizona (UA) Global.  Additionally, Panferov Reese teaches on the interdisciplinary faculty for the Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) program and in continuing status as Associate Specialist in Public and Applied Humanities in the College of Humanities. She continues to chair and serve on several dissertation committees as well.

Prior to her work with UA Global, Panferov Reese has worked for over a decade in the field of international education in various roles. She served as the Director of the Centers for the Applied and Public Humanities (CAPH) and the Director of the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Arizona. As Director of CESL for 14 years, Panferov Reese developed several new curricular programs for international students and professionals with global partners, both in the US and abroad (e.g. in China, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Russia), focusing on English language teaching and pedagogy. Under her leadership, CESL achieved the highest level of national accreditation by CEA for an ESL center and was awarded various grants and special programs. Additionally, she oversaw all faculty, and administrative services including, student recruitment, student immigration, and finances. As Director of CAPH, she coordinated and united the administration of the National Center for Interpretation, the Writing Skills Improvement Program, and the Critical Languages Program. Prior to working at the University of Arizona, Panferov Reese served as a Program Specialist and Course Coordinator for the Ohio State University ESL Composition Program and as instructor for ten years

Panferov Reese has a vast global and domestic professional network from actively serving in local, national, and international leadership roles in addition to being member of many academic and professional organizations throughout her career. Panferov Reese served a long tenure of international leadership positions with TESOL including: an officer (2011-2014) of the TESOL International Association Board of Directors and as President in 2012-2013, Director on the TESOL Board of Directors (2008-2011) and as the TESOL Convention Program Chair (2007). She also served in leadership roles for UCIEP, the Consortium of university-governed IEPs, as Vice-President of UCIEP (2014-2016) as well as President (2016-2017), and the Professional Development Chair (2005-2008). She has also served locally on the board for the Ohio TESOL association.

Panferov Reese’s research focuses on language program administration, professional development, teacher training, pedagogy, and literacy acquisition. She has published on topics ranging from teachers transitioning into professional leadership roles, ESL program marketing, and parental support for K-12 ELL students. Panferov Reese is a frequent presenter for TESOL, NAFSA, and AIEA, among other venues, and has presented in numerous countries on issues of professionalizing and empowering teachers, professional development, leadership, and teaching methodologies.

Panferov Reese completed her graduate studies at The Ohio State University, earning both a Ph.D. and M.A. in Foreign and Second Language Education and an M.A. in Russian Literature. She earned her B.A. in Russian and German studies from Juniata College studying abroad one year on exchange in West Germany and another year in the USSR. In 2017, she was selected to participate in the Association for International Education Administrators (AIEA) Senior International Officer Academy. Additionally, in 2009, she participated in a Fulbright Administrator Exchange in Jalisco, Mexico.
