UA Study Abroad Scholarship Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements

The UA Study Abroad Office manages several scholarships designed to help eligible students afford the costs of studying abroad. Our office will automatically determine your eligibility for the scholarships we manage upon starting a study abroad application and we will notify you as to whether you have been awarded any of these scholarships PRIOR to the deadline by which you need to financially commit to your study abroad program. Below you will find the eligibility requirements of the scholarships we manage.

 

CDH Charitable Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship

The CDH Scholarship awards up to $7,000 for a semester study abroad ($5,000 for summer), with the aim to diversify the student population studying abroad. 

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad Spring 2019 program - scholarship is limited for use for study abroad programs managed by UA Study Abroad (faculty-led, Microcampus, semester exchange, or direct enroll programs only)
  • Be classified under UAccess as a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Be classified under UAccess as an Arizona resident
  • Enrolled at the UA as a degree-seeking student
  • Completion or currently in the process of completing at least 30 units, if a sophomore, or 60 units, if a junior, or 90 units, if a senior
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative UA Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • If a transfer student, Admission GPA will be used and must be 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated financial need with a Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for the current academic term
  • Preference will be given to students identified by UAccess as First-Generation College students.
     

The Explorer's Scholarship

The Explorer's Scholarship awards up to $7,000 for a semester study abroad ($5,000 for summer), with the aim to diversify the student population studying abroad. 

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad Spring 2019 program - scholarship is limited for use for study abroad programs managed by UA Study Abroad (faculty-led, Microcampus, semester exchange, or direct enroll programs only)
  • Be classified under UAccess as a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Be classified under UAccess as an Arizona resident
  • Enrolled at the UA as a degree-seeking student
  • Completion or currently in the process of completing at least 30 units, if a sophomore, or 60 units, if a junior, or 90 units, if a senior
  • Minimum 3.2 cumulative UA Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • If a transfer student, Admission GPA will be used and must be 3.2/4.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated financial need with a Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for the current academic term
  • Primary preference will be given to applicant's cumulative GPA
  • Secondary preference will be given to students identified by UAccess as First-Generation College students.

 

The UA Study Abroad Travel Grant

The University of Arizona Travel Grant is a competitive award offered by UA Study Abroad and distributed to applicants with high financial need. Grants are awarded at $1,000 for semester-long programs and $500 for summer programs.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad Spring 2019 program - scholarship is limited for use for study abroad programs managed by UA Study Abroad (faculty-led, Microcampus, semester exchange, or direct enroll programs only)
  • Have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year and have an Estimated Family Contribution of less than 8,000
  • Must not have received the Travel Grant previously
  • Must be willing to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from your study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by choosing an option below.
    • Volunteering at the Study Abroad Fair in September (assisting with setup, managing booths, and takedown)
    • UA Study Abroad Marketeer (work under direction of study abroad to develop/deliver marketing materials/information)

 

Diversity Scholarship

UA Global is committed to increasing diversity in the students we send out on study abroad programs. Not only is this a matter of equity, but it stands at the cornerstone of our mission to show the international community the full range of Americans who form the fabric of our society. Toward that end, we have created the UA Study Abroad Diversity Scholarship that awards two $2,500 scholarships each term (i.e. Fall, Spring, Summer) to outstanding students willing to invest a substantial amount of time upon their return from their program encouraging other diverse students to consider studying abroad.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • To be considered, you must be a member of a student group that makes up a disproportionately small portion of UA students studying abroad. This includes:
    • LGBTQ+ Students
    • Students from Diverse Ethnic/Cultural Backgrounds
    • Student Veterans
    • Students with a Physical or Learning Disability
    • Non-Traditional Students (i.e. over 25 years of age and/or students with children)
    • First Generation College Students
  • be a current degree-seeking UA student applying to a Spring 2019 UA Global study abroad program
  • must not have received the UA Study Abroad Diversity Scholarship in a previous cycle
  • Must be willing to help promote study abroad to students of diverse background. After returning from your study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 10 hours of service working with our Study Abroad Recruiter in performing the following:
    • Classroom Visits
    • Community Center Events
    • Study Abroad Events
    • Social Media & Blogging
    • And More
