Program Overview

The University of Wollongong is located just under two hours south of Sydney. The campus is located in close proximity from downtown and walking distance to local beaches. UOW is a part of Australia's Group of Eight and enrolls over 28,000 students. Students can choose from a variety of majors including: Arts, Engineering, Sciences, Education and Humanities.

To assure there are placements available, please contact the study abroad coordinator for this program before applying. Only students who have turned in a complete application will reserve a spot for this program.

In addition to the regular semester course offerings, the University of Wollongong, in conjunction with the Faculities of Arts and Science, and the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre, have developed a special intensive Pre-Semester Program: ARTS201: Regional Australian Society & Environment: a Field Study. This optional program will introduce students to a range of historical, political, social and cultural issues relevant to understanding contemporary Australian society.

Location

Wollongong is located less than an hour away from Sydney International airport and 80 kilometers from Sydney’s central business district. Wollongong is filled with natural beauty. It is bordered on the West by an escarpment covered in rain forest and on the East by some of Australia’s finest swimming and surfing beaches. The university’s campus itself is surrounded by several water features that provide a sanctuary for wildlife around the area. Wollongong is also a multicultural city offering restaurants, cafes, and bars with dishes from various regions around the world.

Housing

Students wishing to live in University accommodation should complete a separate housing applicaiton at the time of application. Students who apply for accommodation by the deadline are guaranteed a place in University housing. Off campus housing is also available, as is airport pick up on arrival.
