Sydney is the largest city in Australia with a population of approximately four million people. It's a cosmopolitan city that offers an exciting selection of entertainment, shopping and sightseeing. As a UTS student, the whole of Sydney is just a short walk or bus ride away. Sydney has a great public transport system and the main City campus is just 10 minutes walk from Central railway and bus interchange. If you've finished lectures, wander across to the Market City Centre to shop or meet up for lunch. Walk down to Chinatown for a plate of hot Asian noodles in one of countless delicious and cheap places to eat. Walk over to Darling Harbour for festivals, cultural activities and the green, leafy peace of the Chinese Gardens. Catch a bus down to Circular Quay for the beautiful sights of Sydney Harbour. Gang up with your friends and head into town or to Broadway Mall for a movie. Then stay out late in Sydney's hottest bars and pubs. And on the weekends, there's beautiful beaches and bushland to explore not far from the city.
The UTS Housing Service will organize short-term accommodation for you on arrival and will help you to find longer-term housing. If desired, on campus housing is guaranteed for incoming exchange students. It is relatively easy to find somewhere to stay in Sydney and most exchange students find shared houses or apartments during their first few days in Sydney.
UTS is an urban campus with no on-campus housing. Many students live in rented accommodation, often sharing with other students. UTS owns some off-campus student residences - the Bulga Ngurra and Geegal.
The majority of students rent private accommodation close to the university. The University Housing Service can help students find permanent accommodation. Many students also find accommodation by browsing the student noticeboards on campus and newspapers for rooms to let in shared households.
