In partnership with the Tec de Monterrey, Campus Sonora Norte in Hermosillo, Sonora and various nonprofits and government agencies in Hermosillo, Sonora, SGPP students will engage in internships directly related to their major. The purpose of this program is to provide students an affordable, customized international internship experience.
Potential internship placements include:
- Assist in the creation of a new Citizen Participation Law in Sonora
- Work to prevent domestic violence & promote gender equality
- Help to promote human rights and social justice
- Work on cross-border issues and government accountability
Tentative 2018 dates: June 2nd - June 30th
UA students participating in this program will join students from the Tec de Monterrey in placements at a variety of different internships in Hermosillo. UA students will participate in an online reflection focused class while they do their internship, for which they will receive 3 units of UA credit (POL 393, PA 393, or PA 493). While Spanish language proficiency is not required, some knowledge of Spanish is beneficial.
Hermosillo is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Sonora. It is a rapidly growing economic hub located within a 5 hour drive from the U of A. Home to our partner instiution,Tecnologico de Monterrey, Hermosillo offers many dining & shopping options and close proximity to the seaside towns of San Carlos & Kino Bay.
Housing is included in the program fee listed in the budget listed above. The majority of students will be staying in apartments rented by the University of Arizona. If students have family in Hermosillo, you can potentially stay with them if you inform UA Study Abroad through the application process. Some additional information will be required to confirm the safety of the location of your families housing.
