Program Overview

Applications are due on April 15 for the college of Optical Science's exchange program with the Department of Optics and Photonics at National Central University in Taiwan. 

Applications for $2,500 program scholarships is also possible. To find out application deadlines and for more information contact Academic Programs for more information.


The Department of Optics and Photonics, National Central University, Taiwan invites scholarship applications for incoming exchange students for Summer (June-July) internship cycles.  The opportunities are offered to both graduate and undergraduate students from the College of Optical Sciences, University of Arizona.

Application materials are both hard copy and online.  All hard copy materials must be submitted to the Study Abroad Coordinator.  

Requirements include:

  • Degree-seeking UA College of Optical Sciences student in good academic and disciplinary standing.


Jhongli has a number of important cultural sites.  During your semester or year at NCU you'll have time to go out and explore the city.  Jungshan Park is a great place to relax and enjoy a natural landscape.  Listen to traditional bells and drums as you walk through Yuankuang Temple.  Shengchi Pavilion has a long history dating back to the Ching Dynasty.  You will be amazed at the deep cultural heritage of Jhongli and Taiwan as you learn more about your surroundings.

Jhongli is located 20 miles from Taipei.  You'll have easy access to Taipei through Taiwan's elaborate bus and rail network.


NCU has 16 student dormitories with more than 1,900 rooms which can accommodate up to 6,000 students. 59 percent of students at NCU live in the dorms. Telephone facilities and internet access are available in every room. There are also public spaces such as lounges, reading rooms, gyms, table tennis rooms for recreation, entertainment, and study.
