Program Overview

National Central University is one of the top Taiwanese universities.  With great academics, a low cost of living, a variety of classes offered in English, and many Mandarin language classes, an exchange at NCU is a great opportunity for the student who wishes to improve their Chinese language skills in a completely immersive environment.

National Central University is a well respected university in Taiwan.  NCU teaches Mandarin classes for beginner through advanced students.  NCU is a great place to work on your Mandarin.  You will speak Mandarin on a daily basis through interactions on the streets of Jhongli, as well as with the Taiwanese friends you meet.  NCU also offers a variety of classes taught in English in the sciences and humanities.  If you are a student from the College of Optical Sciences, you might also want to consider conducting an optics research while you are on your exchange at NCU. (US$2,500 scholarship will be awarded for the internship opportunity). For more information, please contact your Study Abroad Coordinator.

Jhongli has a number of important cultural sites.  During your semester or year at NCU you'll have time to go out and explore the city.  Jungshan Park is a great place to relax and enjoy a natural landscape.  Listen to traditional bells and drums as you walk through Yuankuang Temple.  Shengchi Pavilion has a long history dating back to the Ching Dynasty.  You will be amazed at the deep cultural heritage of Jhongli and Taiwan as you learn more about your surroundings.

Jhongli is located 20 miles from Taipei.  You'll have easy access to Taipei through Taiwan's elaborate bus and rail network.

NCU has 16 student dormitories with more than 1,900 rooms which can accommodate up to 6,000 students. 59 percent of students at NCU live in the dorms. Telephone facilities and internet access are available in every room. There are also public spaces such as lounges, reading rooms, gyms, table tennis rooms for recreation, entertainment, and study.
