Program Overview

Hangzhou, the capital and most prosperous city in China’s Zhejiang Province is an emerging technology hub and renowned for its historic relics and natural beauty. Come explore the rich traditional culture centered on tea in Hangzhou and the role of Chinese calligraphy.

Academics

Students can choose between a 4-week Culture Track or a 7-week Language & Culture Track. For students choosing the Language & Culture Track, they will spend 3 weeks at the UA campus doing language intensive studies in either CHN 102 or CHN 201 followed by 4 weeks abroad in Kyoto continuing with language study - but non-intensive - while also taking either EAS 295: Tea & Chinese Culture or CHN 440: Chinese Calligraphy.

  • CHN 440: Chinese Calligraphy
  • *Note:  CHN or EAS 299/399 Independent study credit available

Language & Culture Course Offerings:

  • EAS 295: Tea & Chinese Culture or CHN 440: Chinese Calligraphy
  • CHN 102: Elementary Chinese or CHN 201: Intermediate Chinese
