General Photography Workshop

Course Description:
In today's world, images have become the most effective means of communication; therefore, learning photographic language is a need rather than a simple technical tool. The General Photography Workshop course is one that allows students to learn how to use a camera as the photographer's tool in a theoretical, practical and progressive manner. It will also teach students how the photographic language is applied in its different genres. This course is divided into both theoretical and practical hours of practice. For the theoretical part, students learn the development of photography through history, and the analysis of produced images. For the practical part, students handle the photographic camera with precision and create images that communicate messages. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to perform as photographers skilled with creativity, ethics and efficiency.

Contemporary History

Course Description:
This course surveys the main historical events, political ideologies, economic upheavals, and cultural backgrounds which shaped Europe and other regions of the world in the 20th Century. This course explores the causes that lead up to the First and Second World Wars. This course analyzes how post war peace settlements in Europe, the Middle East, and in Asia, affected its people. It also reveals the origins, developments, and demise of the Cold War. The study of key national leaders, social and political movements, and the role of the superpowers, are all crucial to the complete overview of a fascinating, but very conflicting century whose impact on today’s current affairs are still seen and felt.

Course Description:
The Digital Project Workshop introduces students to the use of prototyping, management, and the creation of interactive multimedia content tools such as mobile apps. It also introduces students to the design and implementation of the necessary strategies that enhanve a digital campign, recognizing their importance to various companies’ communication campaigns at both local and global levels.

Course Description:
In the modern world, images have become the most effective medium of communication. Therefore, this course has been designed to introduce students to photojournalism through a hands-on approach. This course will give students a general idea of the work that goes into being a photojournalist and of the options he or she might have on the job market. At the end of the course, students will be able to work as an independent photojournalist, or with different written medias such as magazines, newspapers, or with news agencies.

Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility

Course Description:
By analyzing the different theoretical focuses of ethics and CSR throughout human history, students will be able to reflect on and develop their own ideas about ethical dilemmas in a business context while also critiquing real life situations. Throughout the course, students will learn about the management of business dilemmas, as well as learn about the trends and theories of corporate social responsibilities. This course emphasizes tools such as stakeholder mapping, certifications, and sustainability indicators in order to help students make decisions in their organization.

Intercultural Communication

Course Description:
This course develops students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills in order for them to recognize the relationships between diverse cultural and national identities, as well as the diversity of the modes of communication. These skills will provide students will an advantage in many areas of employment, providing communication competencies that are required in the multicultural, networked, world. At the end of the course, students will write an essay detailing how globalization affects organizations and how they have applied intercultural communication strategies to maintain effective communication.

International Analysis

Course Description:
This course will help students’ ability to decide which international conflicts are more important to them. This course will also give students basic knowledge that will allow them to understand the complex events that occur in diverse parts of the world; they will later be able to explain these issues in a simplified manner to people of different cultural levels. This course also provides students with tools of interpretation and critical thinking. The course seeks to aid students’ understanding of the difficulties, dilemmas and responsibilities in learning contexts (geographical, historical, ethnic, religious, ideological, cultural, economic, etc.) to help them approach in-depth and with professional honesty to any conflict. The students will be exposed to critical readings, journalism investigations, comparative methods of analysis, debates, and exploration of how technologies are used by people who undergo conflicts.

Interactive Television Workshop

Course Description:
The Interactive Television Workshop course seeks to develop the student’s ability to make a multiplatform audiovisual communication project. In order to do so, students will analyze the evolution of television from its beginnings to the present to understand how it has changed with the convergence of media. Similarly, students will analyze what transmedia narrative are and how social media platforms are integrated into them.

International Relations

Course Description:
The 20th Century was marked by conflict, the division of the world into sections, the diversity of interests and of interdependence, as well as the emergence of new figures, such as new countries and states, international organizations, and other international personnel. Although the world’s economy, politics, ideologies, and societies influenced the direction of international relations of the 20th Century, recent studies have shown that there was another major influencer: Globalization. With that, this course is structed in three sections: The first phase focuses on the analysis and theories about international relations; the second phase is aimed at studying international relations figures; and finally, the third phase focuses on the history of international relations in the 20th Century.

Political Communication

Course Description:
Communication and politics. Two words, or two social phenomena naturally linked to modern societies. Every day, in front of us, the people we define as politicians use the diverse channels of communication, social media, or those alternative mediums, to broadcasts their messages. At the same time, the media becomes involved, either openly or subtly, taking positions, interpretations, or even silencing in a very evident way. The course seeks to explore the above mentioned with a dynamic approach, specifying where it originates, how it maintains and how it develops. Our objective will be to learn to observe and understand how different forms of communications are used to transmit ideologies, information, promises, appearances, rumors, and everything related to the political life.

  • Mandatory Geo Blue International Health Insurance at a rate of $3 a day (approximately $360 a semester)
  • You pay UA Tuition & Fees to study abroad and receive all of the financial aid you use on main campus
  • Other estimated costs include but not limited to transportation (air & local), visa, meals, books and supplies
  • UA Study Abroad scholarships are available based on eligibility
