The University offers research and education in theology, law, medicine (including health sciences and nursing), humanities, social and behavioral sciences, economics, technology, and natural sciences. Hundreds of courses are regularly taught in English which enables exchange students without prior knowledge of Swedish to study at Uppsala University.
Most courses are labeled with a course level (A, B, C or D). This indicates how advanced the course is. Level A is introductory (first year), and D is at a level paralleled with UA graduate coursework. Uppsala University offers a large number of single subject courses, offered in block style (lasting usually 4-6 weeks). It is very important to pre-select a Swedish schedule in which individual courses will not overlap much. Once a student applies for the Uppsala University exchange, they are pre-registered for classes, which will ensure that they can get into the classes needed.
Note: The following subject areas may require additional pre-requisites. Be sure to read the following comments.
- Business courses – Prerequisites vary considerably (Application deadline is earlier if you intend to take business courses)
- Law courses – At least two years of prior Law studies are required
- Medicine – As clinical courses in Medicine require knowledge of fluent Swedish and are very competitive, these courses rarely accept exchange students.
- Natural Sciences including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering: No entry level courses are available, so students must have strong academic backgrounds within these subjects and meet the eligibility requirements described in each course description.
