Students are able to take courses from all departments EXCEPT: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, molecular medicine, and psychology. Most courses are offered in German, but there are several STEM, social science, and literature courses offered in English.

It is recommended that students poses some German language ability prior to arrival - at least A1 per the CEFR. Students will need the B2/C1 CEFR level to participate in courses taught in German.
There is an optional pre-session German Language and Culture course offered prior to both semesters. There is a 1000 EUR fee for the course.
There are a few scholarships available for exchange students:
Exchange students who receive a placement (1 or 2 semesters) in the University of Freiburg Global Exchange Program (NOT Erasmus) are eligible and encouraged to apply for this specific scholarship. Please keep in mind the strict deadlines (always check current call for applications). This includes an online application which has to be submitted by that deadline!
DAAD scholarships The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - German Academic Exchange Service) offers a variety of scholarships for German and Non-German (exchange) students, PhD students, and researchers.
