Location
New Zealand is situated in the southern waters of the Pacific Ocean, with a population of over three million. New Zealand is celebrated for its breath-taking scenery, ranging from sparkling beaches in the north, to majestic mountain ranges and fjords in the south. Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, with a wider population of just over a million.
The University of Auckland's campuses offer the attractions of city life combined with the appeal of outdoor living - close to cafes, restaurants, cinemas, parks, quality clothing and craft shopping, yet within thirty minutes of some of the world's most stunning beaches. A harbour city with a mild climate, Auckland provides opportunities to pursue all sorts of water sports and explore the many islands in its harbour. Auckland is also a center for the arts and entertainment. The University's own Maidment Arts Centre also offers a wide variety of professional performance, including theater, dance and music.
New Zealand has a temperate climate where the northern part of the country is noticeably warmer than the southern part. There are four seasons: summer (December to February), autumn (March to May), winter (June to August), and spring (September to November). The average daytime temperature in summer is 26 C/80 F and the average winter temperature is 15 C/ 60 F.

Housing
Auckland has a variety of accommodation options you can choose from. Self-catered flats and apartments offer you a room with water, power, internet, and membership to the University Recreation Center all included in the residential fees. At Carlaw Park Student Village you can apply for a room in a three or four bedroom apartment, at Parnell Student Village you can have your own room in a four, five or six bedroom flat, at University Hall Apartments and at UniLodge you have the choice of a a single room in a four bedroom apartment or a studio, deluxe studio, twin-share, one or two bedroom apartment. If you would prefer to live in a residence where meals are included, there are limited places available to undergraduate applicants in single and twin-share rooms at Grafton Hall and in single rooms at Huia Residence.
Off campus flats are another option for students. Students choosing this option will sign a tenancy agreement and share the cost of electricity, phone, and food. The Accommodation and Conference Center also offers alternative options for student housing. The University offers students one of the largest library collections in New Zealand, as well as, a Student Health Center, which operates a general medical practice on campus. Students may also take advantage of the more than 120 student clubs and societies or participate in any of recreational activities provided at The Recreation Center.
