RWTH Aachen is a premier research institution located in the westernmost part of Germany just minutes from the Belgian border. More than 35,000 students are engaging in sophisticated advanced research with top scientists and engineers in exceptionally well-resourced labs. Students, researchers, and teachers come from over 120 countries making RWTH Aachen an international institution.
RWTH Aachen is part of the “Excellence Initiative”, a program which has identified 37 so-called “Clusters of Excellence” at selected German universities. Three of these internationally recognized clusters are at RWTH Aachen, and allow scientists to conduct research and collaborate in an exceptional institution as well as provide excellent opportunities for junior researchers.

The international office of RWTH Aachen organizes a range of excursions and intercultural training programming including a welcome program for international students, a buddy program, and German language courses.
