Program Overview

UNIFOR is a private university is the city of Fortaleza, located within Brazil's state of Ceará. Students with a basic to advanced level of Portuguese can select to study at UNIFOR and take their classes in Portuguese or select amongst a smaller offering of classes in English. This exchange offers students an extended stay in the country of Brazil. 


The majority of classes taught at UNIFOR are in Portuguese. However, each semester a set of classes is reserved in English for international exchange students. These classes range in topics; however, below is a list of classes taught in English:

  • Brazilian Art and Culture
  • Business and Professional Ethics
  • Business Strategy
  • Environmental Management
  • InterAmerican Economic Relations
  • International Logistics
  • International Negotiations
  • Macroeconomics

  • Portuguese Language I & II

Additionally, there is always a subset of courses taught partly in English and partly in Portuguese. These are great for the nearly confident speaker looking to improve their language skills without taking a class completely in Portuguese.

Although fluency in Portuguese is not required, students are recommended to have studied the language for at least one year.


Fortaleza is a vibrant city located in the northeast part of Brazil. With beautiful beaches, this city is perfect for spending time outdoors and near the water. Students will enjoy a wide-range of seafood and cannot pass on trying Brazilian tapioca. 


UNIFOR does not have on-campus housing. Therefore, students traditionally rent apartments during their studies in Fortaleza. The International Office at UNIFOR can provide a list of apartments to rent upon acceptance.
