This exciting travel program examines how issues related to sexuality are addressed in Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark. Students will spend one week in Tucson and 3.5 weeks in Europe visiting hospitals, public health agencies and universities, interacting with local students, governments, researchers, medical professionals and public health workers. This program also incorporates a high level of physical activity. Discover why Northern Europeans are some of the healthiest people on Earth!

All students participating in the Human Sexuality and Public Health program will take 6 units of credit in the following:
CPH 330: Human Sexuality (3 units)
- This highly experiential program will focus on how issues related to sexual health are addressed in each country, as well as the different ways that governments, hospitals, and public health organizations provide services and health messaging to their citizens.
CPH 459: Special Topics in Public Health with a focus on Exercise/Fitness/Sport (3 units)
- The course will compare and contrast attitudes, practices, beliefs, laws, and policies that influence fitness, exercise, and sport. The course will include examination of the role that governments and businesses have in supporting and facilitating physical activity among citizens. Students will participate in rigorous physical fitness activities during the program, including bicycling in the Netherlands, and a group movement workshop in Denmark.
2.5 GPA with an interest or major in the field of public health, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, psychology, counseling, and/or other health-related field.
Traveling in a group to three countries, students will visit hospitals, universities, and public health agencies, interacting directly with local students, governmental representatives, researchers, medical professionals and public health workers.
Note: This program has a lot of activity required: walking, yoga, group fitness, bicycling, and possibly dance!
You must complete an interview with Lee Ann Hamilton after submitting your application. Non-UA students will complete their interview over the phone.
Priority Deadline is January 15 - Applications will be accepted until February 25 provided space is still available.

With 30 years of teaching and program coordination at the University of Arizona, Lee Ann is excited to combine her passion for travel and cross-cultural experience with public health. Lee Ann writes the weekly Sex Talk column in the Arizona Daily Wildcat and is well-known for her engaging, humorous and frank presentations on sexual health and safety.
The program will begin with a week of coursework at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Students will then spend three and a half weeks traveling in Northern Europe. See below for the tentative 2018 schedule:
Arrive in Amsterdam
Depart Copenhagen for U.S.
Students will be housed in two- and three-star, centrally-located hotels in Europe (housing is not provided in Tucson). Rooms will be double or triple occupancy, with a private bath.
Breakfast will be included as either continental or buffet-style each morning, but most other meals will be purchased by the students on their own.
Although students will not be housed with a family, there will be multiple dinners planned with local families to provide a "host-family" experience. Here's a testimonial of a student from summer 2015 and what they thought of this experience... "At first I was hesitant about it but after seeing how my host families invited me in with handshakes and we left with hugs in just a short few hours it is amazing what you can do for someone in such a short period of time."

"The feel of dinner was so much different than a normal family dinner to me because nothing felt rushed or stressful. The meat was too cold? That’s okay just throw it on the stove for a second. There was no stress behind dinner not being ready or having all the food done at once at a certain time. They also handled their crying baby and toddler with such ease that I’ve never witnessed in America. Not once did they get frazzled at either of their children crying or misbehaving but acted so nonchalant and did what they needed to do. After dinner, we migrated to their living room and we danced along to some Belgian music and American music as if dancing after dinner was custom and a time for bonding. Everything about visiting them and having dinner felt so purposeful. It felt like they really wanted us there and wanted to make new friends and host us and didn't just host us as a favor. They never rushed us to leave or hurried us through a conversation and it felt like everything was on our terms as guests in their home. Conversation was unusual in that they genuinely wanted to learn something from us and not solely talk “at” us. The experience was amazing and I’m indefinitely grateful. I also will one hundred percent be keeping in contact with my host mom."
