Letters

International Students Services (ISS) can provide letters for a variety of purposes. You can submit your request for a letter through UA International.  Normal processing time for all letter requests is 5 business days.

Verification of Immigration Status

The ISS Verification of Immigration Status replaces the Letter of Enrollment formerly provided by ISS and includes the following:

  • Name

  • Country of citizenship

  • Visa status

  • Degree level

  • Major

  • Full-time enrollment

If you are renewing your visa and need to show proof of your student status and enrollment at the University of Arizona, you can request a transcript or Verification of Enrollment. Official transcripts are provided by the Office of the Registrar. You can download your unofficial transcript and the Verification of Enrollment through your UAccess Student Center.

Letter of Invitation

The ISS Letter of Invitation includes the following:

  • Your information:

    • Name

    • Country of citizenship

    • Visa status

    • Degree level

    • Major

    • Full-time enrollment

  • For the person you would like to invite:

    • Name

    • Date of birth

    • Country of citizenship

    • Relationship to you

If you would like to invite more than one person, you can submit multiple requests at the same time. A separate letter will be issued for each person you would like to invite.

If your family or friends are applying for a visitor visa to enter the U.S., a letter of invitation may not be required. The U.S. Department of State provides the following information about letters submitted for visa applications:

“Visa applicants must qualify on the basis of the applicant's residence and ties abroad, rather than assurances from U.S. family and friends. A letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support is not needed to apply for a nonimmigrant tourist visa. If you do choose to bring a letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support to your interview, please remember that it is not one of the factors that we use in determining whether to issue or deny a nonimmigrant tourist visa.”

ISS recommends that you contact the U.S. Consulate where your family or friends will apply for the visa to get more information about the required documents before requesting a Letter of Invitation.

Letter of Expense

The ISS Letter of Expense includes the following:

  • Name

  • Country of citizenship

  • Visa status

  • Degree level

  • Major

  • Full-time enrollment

  • Estimated cost of tuition and fees

  • Estimated cost of room and board

  • Estimated cost of books

  • Estimated miscellaneous expenses

  • Cost of health insurance

When you submit your request in UA International you can specify the semester(s) you would like included in your letter.

For confirmation of the actual amount of tuition and fees you have paid, please contact the Bursar’s Office.
