Pre-Travel Assistance and Traveler Preparedness Requirements

The Office of Global Initiatives will provide and coordinate resources, training, and assistance to prepare campus and travelers for preparing for international travels and meeting UA and federal requirements.  Below is a chart of trainings offered at the University of Arizona.  Click on each training for scheduling information or links to online offerings.  (SCHEDULE TO BE ADDED WHEN POSTED)

 

In addition to these trainings, travelers or the group leads of travel qualifying for elevated risk review receive additional resources.

 

Training Descriptions

Title IX

Required of all UA employees traveling with students in a supervisory capacity.       http://titleix.arizona.edu/training

Clery

Required of all UA employees in a CSA capacity. 

All UA employees traveling with students in a supervisory capacity are considered CSAs.

Safety Abroad

A series of trainings required for the non-traveling administrator involved in assisting or advising travelers or potential travelers.  Topics covered include: advising with safety and liability in mind; answering your travelers’ safety questions; risk mitigation and emergency response.

Travel Security Brief

Safety briefings provided to individuals or groups traveling to high or extreme risk areas or engaging in high/extreme risk activities while abroad.

Travel Preparation

Intended for students participating in unsupervised international programming to: identify personal vulnerabilities and potential threats; learn best practices for safe travel; become familiar with available UA support while abroad.

Trip-Lead Workshop

Intended for students leading group travel to familiarize the lead with UA requirements, risk mitigation, and emergency response.

 

Health & Safety Overview & Workshop Series

The Health & Safety Overview is mandatory for all UA employees traveling with students in a supervisory capacity.

All UA employees traveling with students are expected to take the Health & Safety Overview every two years.  Attendance at a workshop series event annually is required.

Emergency Planning Workshop

Create emergency plans based on the potential vulnerabilities and threats of a trip or program. 

Emergency Scenarios Workshop

Test your emergency plans by working through scenarios in a group setting. 

Pre-departure Safety Brief

Group review of potential threats to travelers, safety tips, and response to incidents and emergencies abroad.  Attended and/or lead by trained presenters.
