Fulbright Week at the University of Arizona

The Office of Global Initiatives, the UA Honors College, and the UA Graduate College have joined efforts to plan a week full of events acknowledging past Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays recipients; hosting workshops, information sessions and open houses; and informing faculty, undergraduate and graduate students about the opportunities available through the Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays programs. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to participate in any of the Fulbright Week sessions held during the week of Feb 27 - Mar 3, 2017.

Fulbright Week

 MONDAY

February 27

 5:00PM - 6:00PM

Student Program Information Session / UA Honors College Living Room at Slonaker House, 1027 E. Second Street
Emily Kotay, Scholarship Advisor from the Honors College, will be providing information on research grants, English Teaching Assistantships and the UA application process.

 5:00PM - 6:00PM

President's Award Reception honoring recipients: Fulbright Scholars - Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Guggenheim Fellowship, National Academy of Inventors and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
(This event is by special invitation only).

TUESDAY

One-on-One with Dale LaFleur: Prospective Fulbright Scholar Applicants
University Services Building, Room 309  (888 N. Euclid Avenue, next to the Marriott Hotel)
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. Interested faculty and professionals who want to learn more about these opportunities are invited to meet with Dale LaFleur, the UA Fulbright Scholar Liaison, on the UA campus. The award cycle for the 2018-2019 academic year opens February, 2017.

Peace Corps Fair 2017: UA Student Union Memorial Center in the North Ballroom (1303 E University Blvd.)
Our theme this year is “Making the World Your Home.” Meet returned Peace Corps volunteers. Ask questions and enjoy the sights, sounds, and stories gathered while living 27 months abroad in another culture. Visit with the Peace Corps recruiter and learn how and when to apply to Peace Corps. Find a local volunteer opportunity. Meet representatives from area organizations that host Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows and AmeriCorps members. A Fulbright Student Program information table will be included at the Fair. This event is free, family-friendly, and fun; a reception is included. Light refreshments served. Visitor parking is available in UA Garages and metered street parking. 

WEDNESDAY

March 1

Learn@Lunch Topic: "What it Means to be a Fulbright Recipient" lunch hour with three Fulbright recipient presentations, Tucson Marriott University Park (880 E 2nd St)
Come join us for a very casual lunch hour where you can listen to visiting international Fulbright scholars and students share what it means to them to be awarded a Fulbright scholarship and how it influenced their work.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Alumni Panel / UA Honors College Living Room at Slonaker House, 1027 E. Second Street
Emily Kotay, Scholarship Advisor from the Honors College, will be hosting a panel where students can ask Fulbright alumni about their experiences abroad and about their experience applying.

4:00PM - 6:00PM

Fulbright Networking Reception / Slonaker House / UA Honors College, Patio at Slonaker House, 1027 E. Second Street
Enjoy homemade cookies, seasonal fresh fruit, delicious lemonade, iced water and good conversation.

Faculty Fulbrights: Hosted by Social & Behavioral Sciences Research Institute (SBSRI) Student Union Memorial Center, San Pedro Room
All faculty interested in conducting research or teaching abroad are invited to attend SBSRI’s info session on Faculty Fulbrights. This session will provide a brief overview of the Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program and the Fulbright Specialist Program, followed by an open discussion with a multi-disciplinary panel of Fulbright recipients.
After Friday February 17, please register here by Wednesday by March 22nd. Seating is limited.
