An Integrative Approach to COVID-19

There is a high level of interest in integrative strategies to augment public health measures to prevent COVID-19 infection and associated pneumonia. Unfortunately, no integrative measures have been validated in human trials as effective specifically for COVID-19. Notwithstanding, this is an opportune time to be proactive. Using available in-vitro evidence, an understanding of the virulence of COVID-19, as well as data from similar, but different, viruses, we offer the following strategies to consider.

Andrew Weil, MD
Andrew Weil MD is the founder and director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, Clinical Professor of Medicine and Professor of Public Health at the University of Arizona and holds the Jones/Lovell Endowed Chair in Integrative Medicine. He earned his BA in Botany from Harvard College and his MD from Harvard Medical School.
Ann Marie Chiasson, MD, MPH
Ann Marie Chiasson, MD, MPH is the Director of the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Her experience prior to leading the Fellowship includes integrative family medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and infectious disease epidemiology.
Randy Horwitz, MD, PhD, FACP
Randy Horwitz, MD, PhD, FACP is the Medical Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. His PhD was awarded for work in Molecular Immunology, and he is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy & Clinical Immunology, and Integrative Medicine.
Esther Sternberg, MD
Esther Sternberg, MD is Research Director, Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, Founding Director, University of Arizona Institute on Place, Wellbeing & Performance, and Andrew Weil Endowed Chair for Research in Integrative Medicine, she previously was Senior Scientist and Section Chief at the National Institutes of Health (1986-2012). She develops and applies non-invasive devices to measure health, wellbeing and performance from molecules to the built environment.
Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO
Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Arizona where she is the Assistant Director of the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Alschuler completed her naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University where she completed her residency in general naturopathic medicine.
Victoria Maizes, MD
Victoria Maizes, MD is the executive director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, Clinical Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Arizona, and the Andrew Weil Endowed Chair in Integrative Medicine. She earned her from Barnard College and her MD from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine.
