About the Conference
The Food and Water in Arid Lands: Dialogues across Contemporary and Traditional Knowledge Conferencewill promote international knowledge exchange relating to food and water sustainability in arid lands communities. The Conference is cohosted by the University of Arizona, the City of Tucson, and Pima County, along with UNESCO and the International Traditional Knowledge Institute (ITKI), and other local and global partners.
Conference Statement of Principles
Traditional Knowledge and practices of Indigenous communities, both local and global, are at the heart of the conference. The organizers and sponsors of the November 2016 ITKI-UNESCO City of Gastronomy Conference recognize that the event can only be successful with the prioritization of Indigenous/Native Nations voices and people as presenters and participants, and commit to equal representation and participation on the steering/organization committee as well as in plenary panels, presentations, and conference sessions.
